Risking Their Lives to Keep Us Safe
Every time a law enforcement officer leaves their home, families and friends don't know if they will come back. Every time they receive a call, it could be their last. Globally, these men and women are true heroes every day. The smallest things like asking for directions (people still do that) / having a conversation with a resident. A traffic stop not knowing if the person has a gun. Walking into a domestic dispute (officers have told me that is one of the most dangerous). A small sample of what every law enforcement official faces daily.
In 2010, I survived a violent crime. Out of pure fear, did not report it. The next day, a Fayetteville police officer tried hard to change my mind. Again, out of fear, did not report.
The number of law enforcement officials who abuse their power is very small. The moment they commit a crime (stealing a candy bar to murder), they no longer wear a badge. Nothing but a regular criminal who needs to face due process like anyone else.
The media always makes a big deal when an officer commits a crime. Comparatively, the headlines are small when they die in the line of duty. It is time to change that.
June 8, 2021, starting at the state level: Surreal ValeCity will be contacting law enforcement agencies in the U.S. Goal: honor everyone who died in the line of duty. Interview requests will be submitted to various agencies.
Again, thank you for risking your lives to keep us safe.
