Nevada Health Response provides update on mask guidance
CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Nevada Health Response provided an update on county risk levels as posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of updates published on August 3, 12 of Nevada’s 17 counties are currently deemed as having substantial or high transmission.
Counties flagged this week as having a high or substantial risk of COVID-19 transmission include: Carson, Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Storey (move from low to substantial week over week), Washoe and White Pine.
Storey County, which was not listed as having high or substantial risk of transmission last week, is now listed as having a substantial risk of transmission. In accordance with update State guidance issued last week, if Storey County maintains a substantial risk or moves to high risk for another week, the more stringent masking requirements, as laid out by the CDC, will go into effect on Friday, August 13.
Esmeralda County is no longer listed as having a high risk level, now categorized as having a low risk of spread. In accordance with updated State guidance, if Esmeralda maintains a low or moderate level of transmission for another week, the mask mandate in Esmeralda County will be lifted on August 13.
The CDC recommended that everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission. In line with Emergency Directive 045 (signed and effective May 3, 2021), the State of Nevada is automatically adopting the latest CDC guidance related to masks as a statewide requirement.
Week over week, Eureka, Humboldt and Lander are still categorized as having moderate spread. Pershing has moved from a low risk of transmission to moderate.
As a reminder, throughout the State, individuals who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear face coverings indoors.
