a difficult job at times...
As a member of the media for over 4 years (A Valley and Beyond / Surreal ValeCity online magazines):
It is our job to present the facts of any situation. If we want to present our opinions, the word "editorial" exists for a reason. The facts include what happens before and after the video clip / photo / article. The facts include, to the best of our ability, presenting ALL sides of a situation.
When you look at the media, please ask the "before and after" you may not see / re...ad / hear.
Remember, the media, is a business. From the smallest, one person blog / magazine / news to the largest corporate. We need advertisers to keep going.
There are times where we have one of the hardest choices to make: present the unbaised facts and lose money. Slight the facts and be able to continue what we do. Believe me, this is never taken lightly.
Plus, in our society, the only way to get people's attention is by fast / sensationalized images and video. Society keeps wanting everything faster and more glamorous.
I understand all the crtiicism. Like you, I do the same. At the very least ask yourself: "Is this really what I want to see / hear / read? Do I honestly want the unbaised, real story?"
The media / public has always been a difficult circle. We tell the people what they want to hear. The people want to hear what we tell them.
