Luetkemeyer Calls on Secretary Yellen to Testify
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) released the following statement on Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen’s continued violation of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021:
“Now that Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan forgiveness is well underway, Congress must study the effectiveness of the program. This requires on the record conversations with the Treasury Secretary regarding the role of private sector lenders as they delivered assistance to the nation’s small businesses when they needed it most,” said Ranking Member Luetkemeyer.
“Due to the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, the Secretary of the Treasury is required to testify before the Committee on Small Business no later than 120 days after the enactment of the bill.
“It has now been 281 days past the April 26, 2021 deadline.
“This gross dereliction of responsibility not only harms legislators’ ability to be well-informed and knowledgeable on pressing issues impacting Americans, but also continues the theme of incompetency and failure of this administration.
“Madam Secretary, the country is ready, willing, and eager to fight for the survival of America’s small businesses. The least you can do is appear before this committee and provide the necessary testimony.
