Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson announces departure of Director of Elections Justin Lee

SALT LAKE CITY (July 30, 2021) – Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson announced Justin Lee, director of elections for the state of Utah, is leaving for another opportunity after 11 years of service.

“Justin’s faithful execution of election law has been a role model for elections officers across the state and nation,” Henderson said. “He helped ensure the security of our elections, integrated new technology and engendered the trust of the voters. I’m sorry to see him go, but I’m so grateful for his service to the people of Utah.”

Lee started working in the Lieutenant Governor’s Office in 2010. In 2012, he became deputy director of elections and was promoted to director of elections in 2017. During his tenure, Lee assisted in transitioning the state to by-mail elections, helped implement new updated voting equipment and provided counties with additional cyber and physical security options.

“It has truly been my honor to serve as director of elections under two phenomenal lieutenant governors,” Lee said. “Utah is recognized as being at the forefront of elections administration and I’m grateful to have played a small part in that effort. I look forward to watching as Utah  continues to demonstrate that elections can be safe, secure and accessible to all voters.”

Lt. Gov. Henderson will initiate a search to fill the position.
