Holiday Tradition Ends...
Black Friday, needed some time off the laptop. Decided to head over to Bethlehem (PA). Stop by a few shops / tree lighting / favorite part: Christmas Village at Sun Inn Courtyard. Arriving at Broad and main, made the right and almost a straight line to the Village entrance. Did not see the sign, was curious what was happening. Walked back and was in serious shock, no Christmas huts / village! This year, like others, not really in the holiday mood. Stopping by here always fixed that problem.
After walking Main St. and realizing there are some huts at the far end around Moravian Bookshop. Doubled back to Into the Myst (seriously, stop by this shop!). Passing the Christmas Village again, I heard family upset it did not exist this year. OK, it is not only me on this one. With some time to waste, curious why it disappeared. Spoke with 2 shop owners. Several people mentioned to them about being upset over this surprise.
Honestly,. did not plan on doing this article. When you have local business owners / residents / visitors who feel the same way, mind changed real fast!
In some aspects, the Christmas Village was a main attraction and heart of Christmas City. One reason? It was modeled after a village in Germany. Another? Great artists / vendors who were there. Third? Reminded people of the holiday season when they were young. These are only some reasons / ideas. Regardless, I realize everything changes. Have no problem with change / evolving.
To a lot of people around the globe, the holiday season has a certain magic in lights / shopping / people / traditions. The absence of this holiday tradition seriously downgrades the holiday spirit in what is titled The Christmas City. One area Bethlehem City Government / Downtown Association / Chamber of Commerce seriously need to start paying attention. That topic is for another article...
