Governor’s Office for New Americans celebrates the Supreme Court’s decision protecting DACA
Las Vegas, NV – Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump Administration’s decision to terminate the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program was unlawful. The Governor’s Office for New Americans applauds the Court’s ruling, which affects more than 14,000 Nevadans and their families.
DACA recipients are Nevadans. They are our neighbors, our teachers, our nurses, our community leaders, and our friends. More than 14,000 DACA recipients call Nevada home, and they deserve to live and work in this country without the constant fear of deportation.
“I applaud the Supreme Court’s decision to rule in favor of the dreams and aspirations of so many DREAMers across the country, including more than 14,000 in Nevada. As our state, and our nation, continues to face unprecedented challenges in light of the global pandemic, DREAMers continue to contribute to their communities as students, public servants, entrepreneurs, taxpayers, employees, job creators, and essential front line workers in our united fight against COVID-19,” said Gov. Steve Sisolak. “As Governor, I remain committed to supporting DREAMers and their families, and join them in their call for continued progress and a permanent solution through the passage of comprehensive immigration reform.”
“DACA recipients have enriched our lives and the State of Nevada in so many tangible ways. Their contributions, perseverance and resilience embodies what makes America great, no matter your origin. We will continue to stand by DACA, DREAMers, and their families,” said Amaka Ozobia, Director of the Governor’s Office for New Americans.
