Governor Sisolak Wraps Successful Jobs + Workers Week of Highlighting Nevada’s Economic Recovery
LAS VEGAS, NV - Governor Sisolak spent the week touring Nevada businesses bringing good paying jobs to our state and helping in the state’s effort to diversify our economy.
The Governor and Treasurer Zach Conine also held additional stops on the American Rescue Plan listening tour to hear from Nevada’s workforce about ways to invest federal aid to boost our economic recovery.
The week started with the Governor addressing the International Union of Elevator Constructors, a tour of the Sephora distribution facility in North Las Vegas which is slated to bring hundreds of new jobs to the state, continued by remarks at the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s first national convention in Las Vegas, a roundtable with AFL-CIO to hear from Nevada’s labor leaders about utilizing federal aid to boost our economic recovery, an additional stop on the American Rescue Plan listening tour to get input from Nevada’s workforce, and ended with a tour of Geotab, a logistics technology company currently employing hundreds of Nevadans.
The tour comes on the heels of GOED approving 13 companies to relocate and or expand to Nevada that will employ more than 2300 people and pay an average hourly wage of $33. Nevada has also seen its bond rating grow to its strongest ever, seen the fastest increase in employment and some of the strongest GDP growth in the country.

Governor Steve Sisolak continues to embark on the road to recovery with a ‘Jobs + Workers Week’ tour -- an effort to grow our economy in Nevada and diversify the workforce.
News 3 joined in on the governor’s tour of Sephora’s North Las Vegas distribution center. A company on the brink of expanding to bring more jobs to southern Nevada.
The distribution center houses more than 300 employees with upwards of 500 expected for the holidays.

Diversifying the Nevada economy is key to creating more stability and opportunity for workers, Gov. Steve Sisolak said Wednesday after touring a Henderson silver minting company.
The governor said he supports efforts to bring more manufacturing jobs to Nevada after the tour at Sunshine Minting.
Sisolak’s visit to the 142,000-square-foot facility was part of a weeklong tour of manufacturers and distribution facilities for his Jobs + Workers Week, meant to highlight Nevada’s economic recovery from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. He also visited a distribution facility for beauty retailer Sephora and a roundtable with unions such as the AFL-CIO, among other stops.

This week marks Jobs and Workers Week. Governor Sisolak has spent the week talking to workers throughout the state and has given an update on getting jobs back to the levels they were before the pandemic.
The Governor said one of the state’s priorities is to make sure people looking for jobs get one. If there aren’t any openings available in the field of your choice, he suggests keeping an open mind and looking at other options.

More than a thousand Latino business leaders from around the country visited Las Vegas for the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s National Convention.
It was the first time ever that Las Vegas hosted the conference.
“Nevada could not be more proud to host a national organization like this that actively promotes the economic growth, development, and interests of more than 4.7 million Hispanic-owned businesses that contributed more than $800 billion to the American economy every year. There’s no better time to be here in the State of Nevada than during Hispanic Heritage Month,” Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak said.

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: Nevada Becomes First State in the U.S. to Directly Invest in Educator Projects on DonorsChoose Using Federal Relief Funds
The Nevada Department of Education (NDE) announced the allocation of $8 million in Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds to help K-12 public school educators get classroom resources for the school year through DonorsChoose, a nonprofit crowdfunding website. The collaboration between NDE and DonorsChoose will provide Nevada educators with up to $800 in funding for their projects, empowering them to support their students' success with classroom resources.
Any Nevada full-time equivalent K-12 public school employee who spends the majority of their time directly educating or counseling students is eligible to create a project. Eligible projects are anticipated to be funded within one week of posting. Projects will be funded up to $800 for resources, with an additional $154 in fees covered by DonorsChoose, for a total project sum of $954.
