CARSON CITY, Nevada – Today, Governor Steve Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak hosted a virtual roundtable with community leaders, law enforcement, and elected officials to hear directly from the State’s leadership about the issues they are facing and discuss solutions aimed at addressing acts of violence and discrimination towards the AAPI community.
“First Lady Kathy Sisolak and I were honored to have hosted a virtual round table discussion with prominent community leaders, law enforcement officials, and elected officials in order to allow for these important conversations to take place,” said Governor Sisolak. “Nevada has always been and will always be a safe and welcome place for people from all walks of life. Diversity is our strength in this State and the First Lady and I stand in solidarity with Nevada’s AAPI community.”
First Lady Kathy Sisolak is the daughter of immigrants and her father was the first Chinese dealer on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.
“This issue is close and dear to my heart, as it is to all members of Nevada’s AAPI community” said First Lady Sisolak. “My heritage and my culture are an important part of my identity and I firmly stand upon the belief that no one should ever be targeted or persecuted for their race, ethnicity, or the color of their skin. “

Governor Sisolak and First Lady Kathy Sisolak were joined by community leaders from AAPI communities from across the State, Congresswoman Dina Titus, Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, State Legislators, representatives from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Washoe County’s Sheriff’s Office, and others.
