In Case You Missed It: Governor Sisolak calls into CCSD public comment, urges safe reopening of schools
CARSON CITY – Last night, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak called into the Clark County School District Board of Trustees meeting to provide public comment and support for a safe reopening of schools.

Governor’s remarks:
The last year has been full of tough decisions on how to keep communities safe, but the decision to close schools to in-person learning last March was one of the most difficult.
But in the most trying of times, heroes rise to meet the moment, and in Nevada those heroes include our educators who served our children in the face of historic obstacles.
But the reality still remains: distance learning is not ideal and every day our children are falling behind, especially those who continue to be disproportionately impacted by the inequities in our education system. We must work to return to in-person learning in the safest way possible as soon as possible.
I was glad to see CCSD announce plans to begin a return to in-person learning for pre-K through third grade beginning March 1st. I ask everyone to continue these efforts and develop future plans for more grades to return in a safe manner.
The State will continue to assist in anyway possible. We have already worked to supply PPE and access to testing. Additionally, the state laid out it’s clear goal of prioritizing the vaccination of educators as quickly as federal allocations allow.
The health and safety of students, educators, staff, and families remain the priority. I am confident with a new federal partnership, infusion of funding, and the commitment of all of us, we can make this happen while getting our kids back into the classroom and on the fields. I will work with Superintendent Ebert and Superintendent Jara to devote every resource possible to meet this goal, and I look forward to your partnership.
