Gov. Sisolak authorizes additional Nevada National Guard as support in Southern Nevada
LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, in response to a local request in Southern Nevada, Governor Steve Sisolak activated additional members of the Nevada National Guard to provide support for State and local law enforcement.
The Nevada National Guard units will not be on the front lines, making arrests or doing crowd control. Their mission is to act as support personnel and they will focus on protecting critical facilities, preserving public safety, and allowing individuals to exercise their rights to peacefully demonstrate.
Over the weekend, the Governor activated two Guard units, one in Northern Nevada and one in Southern Nevada. Now, additional men and women are being added to provide support in Southern Nevada.
The Nevada National Guard is made up of Nevadans, they are our neighbors, family, and friends. They help in our times of need – from responding to wildfires, to currently filling a critical need in our statewide response to the COVID-19 public health crisis by administering, collecting, and processing COVID-19 tests at the significant risk of their own personal health.
As Governor Sisolak previously mentioned, violence in any form cannot be tolerated. He remains committed to the goal of ensuring the public can safely express their First Amendment rights and call for an end to the injustices facing Black Americans. He thanks the members of the Nevada National Guard in their assistance in protecting our state and its people.
