Governor Sisolak Announces Appointments to Nevada Gaming Commission
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Today, Governor Steve Sisolak announced two appointments to the Nevada Gaming Commission – the Honorable Jennifer Togliatti and former State Senator Ben Kieckhefer. Togliatti will serve as chair – and will be the first female to serve as the chair.
“Both Judge Togliatti and Senator Kieckhefer are highly qualified appointments to these positions, and I am glad to have them continue their service to the Silver State by serving on the Nevada Gaming Commission,” Gov. Sisolak said. “This commission is the gold standard of gaming regulation, and these appointments will continue to honor that.”
Togliatti has served the State of Nevada in the state judiciary for more than 25 years and has significant legal, administrative and legislative experience. She has experience related to all aspects of litigation, criminal and civil, including complex business disputes.
Kieckhefer has spent the last decade serving in the Nevada State Senate, where he has spent time working on legislation on complex and contentious issues. He works as the Director of Client Relations at McDonald Carano.
The primary responsibilities of the Commission include acting on the recommendations of the Board in licensing matters and ruling upon work permit appeal cases. The Commission is the final authority on licensing matters, having the ability to approve, restrict, limit, condition, deny, revoke or suspend any gaming license.
The Commission is also charged with the responsibility of adopting regulations to implement and enforce the State laws governing gaming.
When the Board believes discipline against a gaming licensee is appropriate, the Board acts in the prosecutorial capacity, while the Commission acts in the quasi-judicial capacity to determine whether any sanctions should be imposed.
