Luetkemeyer statement on failed launch of SBA Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program
WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Committee on Small Business Ranking Member Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-MO) released the following statement on the failed launch of the SBA's Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program after calling on the SBA to delay the program last night.
“In addition to the oversight concerns I raised last night prompted by the IG’s Management Alert, today’s technical issues within the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program portal are further proof of the SBA’s mismanagement of the program. After only two hours online today, the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program portal crashed, resulting in the SBA suspending the entire application process.
"As the Republican Leader of the House Small Business Committee, I am committed to ensuring eligible small business owners, who are anxiously awaiting relief, have access to Shuttered Venue Operators Grants. However, I continue to be concerned by the SBA’s lack of action to ensure these funds are not misused. The proper controls must be in place before the SBA institutes programs intended to help our nation’s most vulnerable small businesses.
“Today’s rollout was a complete debacle. For these reasons, I am calling on the SBA to halt this program until all technical problems and Inspector General concerns are resolved with appropriate safeguards in place to protect the integrity of the program and taxpayer dollars. Anything less is incompetence, and mismanagement and will not be tolerated."
