Daily Update:
  • The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is pleased that yet another court ruling has affirmed the integrity and fairness of the department’s Medicaid Managed Care procurement process. Read more.
  • NCDHHS updated the COVID-19 County Alert System yesterday, which shows 27 red counties — a decrease from 61 red counties on the previous Feb. 4 County Alert System — and the fewest red counties in the state since the start of the County Alert System. Read more. 
  • Vaccine providers in North Carolina and across the nation continued to be hampered by delayed shipments and deliveries of COVID-19 vaccines due to severe weather. Last week, the federal government notified impacted states that vaccine shipments are expected to resume the beginning of this week. Read more. 

COVID-19 Testing:
  • Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 should get tested. If you are sick, use the Check My Symptoms tool to help you determine if you need a COVID-19 test. People who do not have symptoms but may have been exposed to COVID-19 should also get tested, especially people from historically marginalized communities, including Latinx/Hispanic, Black/African American and American Indian Populations, who have been disproportionately affected by the virus. 
  • North Carolina has upcoming testing events scheduled in Alamance, Avery, Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen, Buncombe, Cabarrus, Caswell, Catawba, Chatham, Chowan, Cleveland, Craven, Cumberland, Dare, Davidson, Davie, Duplin, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Gaston, Gates, Graham, Granville, Greene, Guilford, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Iredell, Johnston, Lenoir, Lincoln, Madison, Martin, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, New Hanover, Onslow, Orange, Pamlico, Person, Pitt, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Surry, Vance, Wake, Wilson, Yadkin and Yancey counties.   • North Carolina COVID-19 testing is also provided at some local health departments, doctor and clinician offices, hospitals and clinics, many pharmacy sites and retail outlets, and other community locations. Some people who work in long-term care facilities and other high-risk settings may be tested through their work. You can find testing sites by using the Find My Testing Place tool online.

  • Last week, Governor Roy Cooper and Emergency Management Director Mike Sprayberry outlined impacts and response to the winter storm, including weather-related delays to vaccine distribution. Read more. 
  • Nearly $27 million in grants have been awarded to 34 municipal and county governments in North Carolina in response to the adverse economic and public health impacts of COVID-19, Governor Cooper announced. Read more.
  • NCDHHS in partnership with NC Department of Public Instruction announced it will begin issuing additional benefits on Feb. 19, 2021 through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program. Read more.
