Carson City, NV — Today, Caleb Cage, Nevada COVID-19 Response Director and Karissa Loper, Bureau Chief for the Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness provided updates on Nevada’s ongoing COVID-19 response and vaccination efforts in Nevada during a call with members of the media.

- As of today, Nevada has logged 312,840 cases, with the 14-day rolling average of daily cases being 270.
- Nevada has now completed a total of 3,136,964 molecular tests since the beginning of COVID-19.
- The test positivity rate over the last 14 days is 5.8%.
- Today, the Nevada Hospital Association is reporting there are currently 350 COVID-19 hospitalizations (305 confirmed; 45 suspected).
- On Wednesday, Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra signed the extension of the Declaration of a Public Health Emergency until at least July 20, 2021.
- The extension will help ensure the federal, state and local partners remain committed to a unified COVID-19 response and Nevada can access the resources necessary.
- Over the past 2 weeks, the COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force has been working with counties to ensure their plans are ready for the transition to local authority on May 1.
- 16 of 17 Nevada counties have completed the planning process and collected necessary endorsements from their local health districts, school districts, city managers and their respective hospital associations.
- Washoe County will resubmit their plan once it has received the necessary endorsements.
- This is an important milestone, and these plans will help ensure the health and safety of every community in Nevada.
- There are a few statewide mandates, like the use of masks, that will continue.
- The state will continue to be here to assist in any way that might be necessary in this next chapter of the pandemic response.
- As of April 22, 1,763,817 COVID-19 vaccine doses (By Resident County) were administered and reported to Nevada WebIZ.
- 43.5% of the population 16 and older has initiated vaccination and 29.6% of the population 16 and older has completed vaccination.
- Today the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP, is meeting to further review the Janssen vaccine and the rare but serious reactions reported.
- The Nevada State Immunization Program is following the meeting for next steps and recommendations.
- The Mobile Vaccination Unit or MVU on the Northern route is in Carlin today and will be there until 7 p.m. They will then head to the Duck Valley Reservation in Owyhee to administer doses on April 25th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- On the Southern route the MVU will be in Ely tomorrow administering vaccines all day, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- A reminder these are first come, first serve events and the MVUs are now stocked with the Pfizer vaccine, which is available to any Nevadan 16 and older.
