Generosity and Kindness Shine through the Pandemic
(ALLENTOWN, PA) –For the past 19 years, on the weekend before Thanksgiving, the Allentown Rescue
Mission partnered with Giant’s, Walmart’s, and other community partners to collect food and supplies
for the homeless men it serves. The Allentown Rescue Mission relies on this event to restock its pantry
for the following year. This year, the global pandemic changed the way the Thanks for Giving Food &
Supplies Drive was run.
To protect its donors, volunteers, men, and staff, the Allentown Rescue Mission chose to host the drive
on November 20th & 21st at their office building. Donors were able to use a contactless drop-off option
to safely donate without getting out of their cars. Community partners also collected donations off-site
and dropped them off at the Allentown Rescue Mission. The Thanks for Giving Food & Supplies Drive
changed this year, but the kindness of the community did not.
Thanks to the generosity of the community, the Allentown Rescue Mission collected 49,772 pounds of
food and supplies. These donations helped feed and restore men experiencing homelessness
throughout the holidays and will continue to feed them this year. The Allentown Rescue Mission thanks
the 60 business locations and 100’s donors that participated in the event.
Thanks to its donors, the Allentown Rescue Mission is able to provide shelter, meals, medical care, social
services, workforce development classes, and other essential services to homeless men in the Greater
Lehigh Valley. To learn more about the services the Allentown Rescue Mission provides, visit
