The American Heart Association stops by the Allentown Rescue Mission
They fed our men and taught them how to live healthier

(Allentown, PA)—On Wednesday, February 5th, the American Heart Association spent the day at the Allentown Rescue Mission helping our men. Not only did they help by serving two meals; they also gave the men knowledge on how to live a healthier lifestyle so they can feel better about themselves.
The American Heart Association has been partnering with the Allentown Rescue Mission for a while, and from time to time they come in to serve a meal to our men. This time it was a bit different. In order to bring awareness to national “GO RED” day, they wanted to teach our men how they can make healthier choices in everyday life.
The day started by a make-and-serve of lunch to the men. Members of the AHA then went on a tour of our facility before they were able to sit down and talk to our men in the Allentown Rescue Mission chapel.
Dan, an employee for AHA, spoke to the men about healthy food choices, being active, and different and healthier ways to prepare meals. Dan says, “I believe being healthy is all about feeling better.” Dan then went on to explain his experience through eating properly and becoming healthy. After his presentation, he was able to hear from some men from the Transformation Program talk about their stories and how they got to where they are. The day concluded with them providing dinner to our men.

Bring awareness about cardiovascular disease by wearing red on Friday, February 7th, and help save lives.
Since 1900, The Allentown Rescue Mission has fed multitudes of hungry and hurting men. Today we embrace all those experiencing homelessness with the compassion of Jesus Christ. We believe He has given us a second chance in life-we've been saved, rescued and now get to provide that same hope and renewal to others here in the Lehigh Valley, and the surrounding communities.
