What a music should / needs to be. Special Thanks to WXPN for the chance to cover XPoNential!!!! I cannot thank volunteers / performers / vendors / everyone there enough, especially volunteers. Wish I could have covered both Sat. / Sun. Made it on Sunday. XPoNential was easily worth the wait! Last Sunday / weekend of summer, PERFECT way to officially end the season.
XPoNential has all the right elements, making one of the best festivals I covered in 10 years (simple blog / A Valley and Beyond / Surreal ValeCity. Lehigh Valley / Philadelphia / NYC). Obvious: great lineup of original, indie bands on day 3. Excellent flow of bands / music. Chestnut Grove kicking the day off rocking with high energy (great start / Marina Stage). Switch to River Stage (a few steps away): Cosmic Guilt cooled it down a little (considering a warm summer day...). Back to Marina for Buffalo Nichols adding powerful vocals, guitar / drums, lyrics / music from a deeper, emotional level. Back to River: The Suffers taking it back up with Rock / R&B / Dance / Pop. Tone / feel set for the day. Special mention: Kathleen Edwards (caught part of her performance right before had to leave). She added to variety / surprises with true country.
Festival overall: One thing forgot to mention in long version (video). Flow of festival from walking in. Security / food and beverages / vendors and organizations laid out in a long walkway. Leading to main part: music! Vendors / artists were on the paths leading to river. Artists next to stages. Vendors shared equal focus with performers. Attention to this detail is rarely seen in festivals in general. Level of attention was also shown in Music / performer flow. One aspect I always forget to mention: Enough portable restrooms at various locations. Know it sounds minor, ever been to a festival had to stand in a long line for this part? Unlike some other festivals I have been to (especially Lehigh Valley), a primary focus was not on selling alcohol. Beer / wine vendors were present. Did not see a lot of people walking around with alcohol or long lines to purchase.
Security: Huge with me!!!! Entrance / bag check. Camden sheriff checking IDs for alcohol bracelets. Security throughout festival. Enough to have visible presence. Not intrusive to prevent a great time. WXPN / organizers found a great balance. Crowd feedback: Spoke with several people attending / vendors / volunteers. Not a single negative comment. 1st time attendees (like myself) to long term fans (10+ years). When I mentioned this was first one, everyone I spoke with was genuinely welcoming. Seriously added to the great experience.
Several posts on social media: XPoNential Music Festival was the PERFECT end to Summer 2022. Sincerely mean it in every sense of the term. So much for short version. Scroll down for full, video review / photos.
