Nevada Health Response provides update on mask guidance
CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Nevada Health Response provided an update on county risk levels as posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of updates published on August 31, 16 of Nevada’s 17 counties are currently having substantial or high transmission.
Counties flagged this week as having a high or substantial risk of COVID-19 transmission include: Carson, Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lincoln, Lyon, Nye, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine.
Mineral County is noted as having a low transmission rate after multiple weeks of a high transmission rate. If Mineral County’s transmission level remains “low” or “moderate” next week, the mask requirement will only apply to unvaccinated individuals
Esmeralda and Lander counties both have had a high or substantial rate for two weeks in a row; therefore, in accordance with Directives 047 and 048 and accompanying State guidance, more stringent masking requirements, as laid out by the CDC, will go into effect on Friday, September 3.
Eureka is noted as having a high transmission rate and if the county maintains at a high rate or moves to substantial transmission for another week, the more stringent mask requirement will go info effect on September 10.
Throughout the State, individuals who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear face coverings indoors or while in crowded outdoor settings.
The CDC recommended that everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission. In line with Emergency Directive 045 (signed and effective May 3, 2021), the State of Nevada is automatically adopting the latest CDC guidance related to masks as a statewide requirement.
Please note that some school districts and local governments have implemented mask requirements that may be more strict than those set forth in Directives 047 and 0
