The History MakersIn Orienteering star Matthias Kyburz will be looking to cement his place in The World Games pantheon as the most prolific medal collector in the navigation and running sport. From his previous two times at The World Games, the Swiss athlete has amassed six medals, including four golds.
Tony Nash of Great Britain already has a silver medal in his pocket for his efforts in the tug of war. Remarkably this was achieved when he had already blown out 71 candles on his birthday cake! He goes again in the mixed gender event, a new discipline at The World Games. Can he become the oldest athlete (surely!) to ever win gold at The World Games?
The Fans FavouritesBirmingham resident Deanna Newman gets the opportunity of a lifetime to participate in the Duathlon in front of her family, friends and work colleagues. It is unlikely that she will win the race which combines running and cycling - she is 51 after all, which is more than the combined age of the two Iranian athletes she will face! Deanna is a former triathlon professional and way back in 2000 she was the female duathlete of the year. Despite her age Newman is still a formidable competitor, finishing second in the USA national championships which ensured she was able to race through the familiar streets of her home city. Deanna's biggest sporting triumphs nowadays are aiding the cardiac patients she works with to become more physically active.
In Flying Disc, USA have once again made the final, despite a shock loss in the qualifying pool game with Germany. The sport of Ultimate is athletic and spectacular, when a score is made it is like watching a quarterback connect with his wide receiver in the end zone. The USA have never lost a gold medal match and need your support to ensure they maintain their perfect record.
