BUSY DAY AT SPORTACCORD
SportAccord, the world sport and business summit where the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International World Games Association is traditionally held, takes place this year in Gold Coast, Australia.
The IWGA AGM will take place on Thursday 9 May, but the action for The World Games has already started. The World Games 2021 has a booth at the exhibition area, and there have been both scheduled meetings and many ad hoc ones taking place there since Monday.

Several of The World Games sports have booths in the exhibition area. Lacrosse is present for the first time at the exhibition, with their new branded name World Lacrosse. Australian Lacrosse player Theodora Kwas is one of the people presenting the sport at SportAccord. “I have very good memories from The World Games 2017,” she says. “It was great to be able to travel by public transport around the city and watch other sports too. The atmosphere is special when you are together with athletes from so many sports.” Kwas also visited the SportAccord booth for Powerlifting, where you can try how hard it is to lift the weights.
The IOC and IWGA Presidents held one of their regular meetings on Tuesday, as they were both present at SportAccord. The IOC President Thomas Bach congratulated The World Games in advance for finding a great candidate for The World Games 2025. After this meeting, President Perurena, together with CEO Joachim Gossow, Treasurer Lukas Hinder and General Manager Chantal Boehi met with the Chengdu delegation applying for The World Games 2025, led by the Mayor of Chengdu, Mr Luo Qiang.
The Annual General Meeting will decide on Thursday whether to ratify the decision to appoint Chengdu, China, as the organiser of The World Games 2025. The SportAccord continues until Friday.
