ATHLETE OF NOVEMBER 2020

Picture
Squash player Ali Farag (EGY) has won the latest two PSA World Tour tournaments, the CB Egyptian Open and the Qatar Classic, in October and November 2020. With victory at the latter, the Qatar Classic, he reclaimed the World No.1 spot after 9 months in second place. More than deservedly, he is our Athlete of November 2020!
Ali Farag’s victories in the CIB Egyptian Open and Qatar Classic mean that he has now appeared in 40 finals in all. And since June 2018 he has appeared in an incredible 18 out of 24 top-level finals, many of them against his great rival and fellow Egyptian Mohamed Elshorbagy. Since the PSA World Tour resumed, Farag has steadily built an increasingly impressive momentum, following up a quarter-final appearance at the Manchester Open with a run to the semi-finals at the CIB World Tour Finals before claiming both the CIB Egyptian Open and Qatar Classic titles in emphatic fashion.
Since graduating from Harvard University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2014, Ali Farag has established himself as one of the most popular players on the PSA World Tour, and is now for the second time the World No.1. He reached this position for the first time in March 2019. Farag’s wife, Squash player Nour el Tayeb, is currently World No. 3. According to Farag she is a big reason for his current success:
“Without doubt, Nour has been my inspiration [during lockdown]. She has kept me going when I have lost motivation and when I was down and letting things get to me, and without her it would have been a nightmare.”
As The World Games Athlete of November 2020, Ali Farag will receive The World Games Athlete of the Month diploma as well as a branded gift from the Official Sponsor of Athlete of the Month, Protective Life.
