More involved than most games...

Glass Robot Games
I met the developers of Tranquil Garden at Playcrafting's Spring Expo 2019 in New York. Surreal ValeCity tries to support all indie creators, regardless of genre.

Tranquil Garden is definitely a different game. A lot of thought and planning went into it during early stages of development.

Here is what I loved about the game:
1) I am 48, grew up with the genesis of video games (arcades, Atari / Colecovision / Intellevision, original Nintendo, Sega, etc.). After the intro screen, Tranquil Garden immediately flashed me back to the original Final Fantasy / Dragon Warrior days (Nintendo / original GameBoy). What really did it was the graphics and game play.

2) There are more ways to level up than just fighting battles. The game has an interesting twist: character development. Your main stats can increase through character interaction. Example: even before you leave town, there are chances to have a discussion among the main characters. Depending on your choices, different stats may go up. Adding to the challenge and immersion level. In a certain aspect, it mimics real life more than most games.

3) There are definite actions that can also increase your stats. One example is visiting different buildings in the village.

4) Realistic character interaction. Not only do characters interact on a basic level (fighting, general conversation), the questions and interaction can be emotional at times. Again, mimicing real life a lot more.
What I really did not like:
1) There is too much emphasis placed on "hero" / "hero in training". In the beginning of the game, it becomes a little too repetitive for me.

2) When playing most games, my style is pretty much "let's get to the action" The opening is a little too long for me. Honestly, it will be perfect length for most gamers.

3) On the technical side: in the world / main screen, there is almost a conflict with graphics. Especially with the style / design of the trees. Too long and single vs. the rest of the screen and game.
Overall:

Tranquil Garden could set a new standard and way of creating games. Especially with character development and immersion. Game controls are fairly simple. Playing it on a laptop, I was able to figure everything out without any help.

Adding in real life interaction and using it to increase stats drastically increases the possibilites and even ups the immersion factor.

These and other factors make Tranquil garden a great game for any age. Casual to hard core gamers will love the amount of time obviously placed into the early development. Plus, maybe I am way off on this one, curious if there is a romantic edge between 2 of characters.
