Different Style and approach
I was introduced to Revery Rebirth at PlayNYC 2019. Seriously thought it was a great concept and approach to a game. There are a few things I love about the game and Kickstarter. 1 aspect I that really didn't do it for me.
What did I love?
1) Using music and instruments to defeat your enemies vs. guns and weapons. This aspect combines a standard approach while showing people other methods can be used. Plus, it demonstrates the very real and true power of music.
2) Teaching music history and theory. According to the Kickstarter, to solve some puzzles, you also learn about music theory and history.
3) Starting at the top, there is a link to try the demo. Inviting you to check out the game right off, this is definitely a great technique! (Yes, I did download the demo).
4) Like a true RPG, you assemble a party of adventurers. Each one has their own instrument and songs they can play. These are based on real instruments. Main character, Ares, uses electric guitar.
5) The Key Features sections gives you another idea how this game can be very unique. Characters (both friend / enemy) appear to go through. Adding another dimension to the game. Plus, if you love a good story, this definitely will add to immersion factor.
6) Continue the scroll down, screenshots give you a great idea of game mechanics. If you downloaded the demo, you will see this while exploring the village.
What I did not love?
There is one, main, aspect that kind of turned me off: the mention of LGBTQ+. Reason? In real life, I personally do not care! Plus, there is a chance it could isolate / turn off some potential players. While this may not seem like a big deal to you, players could learn about this and be surprised during the game. I did not feel there was a need to point this out in the Kickstarter.
Rewards:
In addition to Rewards being listed in the sidebar, I loved the graphic which incorporated characters and unique design. Reward levels are excellent considering the amount of money attempting to be raised. Game Tier ranges from $18 to $125. The $18 level is perfect for the final product. Revery Rebirth looks promising enough to make this a great deal! Developer Tier / $300 - $3500 which does include either creating or assisting in aspects of game creation.
Overall Recommendation:
As an indie game that should be picked up by major companies, Revery Rebirth has so much potential! Gamers and almost everyone will find something they seriously like about it. Not using weapons, showing the true power of music, real life character development are just some main aspects that make this game interesting and unique. It is recommended, if possible, to make the donation for the full version!!!!!!
