At request of local leaders, Gov. Sisolak activates Nevada National Guard
CARSON CITY, NV – Citizen soldiers from the Nevada National Guard were mobilized to state active duty tonight at the request of Gov. Steve Sisolak in response to a request for assistance from civil authorities in Reno.
The Guard men and women stand ready to support state and local law enforcement in preserving public safety as well as the ability of individuals to exercise their rights to peacefully demonstrate.
Their role and the mission of the Guard is to help keep local government buildings secure. This will help Reno Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies protect residents and disperse crowds.
Nevada’s adjutant general mobilized members of the Guard under direction of Gov. Sisolak after receiving a call for aid from Reno officials.
Prior to the activation of the Nevada National Guard, a number of other state and local resources were sent to assist Reno Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, who are working tirelessly to subdue unlawful activity and restore peace. That includes the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Highway Patrol, Investigations and Fire Marshal Divisions, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and City of Sparks Police Department.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is also assisting law enforcement by providing physical assets to act as barriers for closures of the I-80 ramps between Keystone and Wells.
