New unemployment data confirm that Ohio is still struggling to get out of the economic hole that Mike DeWine's aggressive and unnecessary lockdowns buried it in. Per a new report, Ohio had the ninth-largest increase in the U.S. in unemployment claims last week and has seen the 13th highest increase in jobless claims since the pandemic began.

Instead, DeWine chose to destroy nearly a million jobs and decimate Ohio families' livelihoods while massive corporate retailers got a free pass. Nearly two years later, it's clear DeWine has no real plan to fix it: Ohio is still struggling to climb out of the economic hole DeWine dug us into. As governor, I will apply the same job-creating conservative principles I've learned through my decades of experience in building successful businesses and turn Ohio around to become one of the top states in the country to create jobs. Most importantly, I will let the world know that Ohio is OPEN FOR BUSINESS!"

- Ohio lost nearly 900,000 jobs thanks to Mike DeWine's aggressive and unnecessary lockdowns that went against President Trump's leadership. Ohio's economy still hasn't recovered all the jobs lost and is still nearly 200,000 jobs in the hole. Mike DeWine was an "early lone wolf" and one of the first to completely shut down his state, locking down Ohio along with deep blue states like New York, California, and Illinois.
- While other states led by Republican governors are enjoying huge surges in job growth, Ohio is lagging behind in the back of the pack with other blue states. Ohio ranks 33rd in job creation since November 2019.
- DeWine's disparate and unfair lockdowns shut down hundreds of thousands of small businesses while massive big-box stores like Target and Walmart were permitted to keep their doors open, prompting the Republican legislature to take action against DeWine.
- A 2021 report found that Ohio is the WORST state in the entire region to do business. "Mike DeWine is keeping Ohio closed for business," Jim Renacci said at the time. "For years, I’ve been warning DeWine about the destruction his job crushing policies were causing to Ohio families—but as usual, he refused to listen."
- According to one deli owner in Northeast Ohio, "All of the fear and doom handed down by Mike DeWine the past two years has us hanging on by a thread."
