Special Thank You to Governor Burgum, his staff and everyone at the governor's office. Taking time out of a very busy schedule to answer these questions. This is an unedited, copy / paste from the e-mail. Surreal ValeCity has a strict policy to present facts.
North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum

  1. What areas are considered “accepted casualties” of Covid-19? Examples: deaths directly related to virus. Possible increase in suicide. Possible increase in domestic violence. Depression / heart attack from stress. Possible increase in child abuse. Can areas like these even be quantified in reference to the virus? We don’t consider any of these casualties acceptable.
  2. Will the media, including corporate, be held accountable for misleading information, false statements, possible spreading panic / paranoia as examples?  The media is accountable to the public and to themselves.
  3. What can the media do to help, beyond our responsibility of stating / reporting facts? Fill in the information gaps; recognize positive community and individual efforts; promote ways we can help support each other and vulnerable populations.
  4. When the virus is under control, numbers lower: What safeguards are in place for various levels of government to cease the level of control they are using? Examples: Limiting the number of number of people at gatherings. Social Distancing. Closing / limiting types of businesses open. All of the examples to an extent.
  5. What are some of the benefits / upsides to everything related with the virus? Example: People / businesses learning new ways of doing things. We will certainly learn new ways of conducting business and supporting each other. We will most certainly also have the benefit of hindsight.
  6. Does the Federal Government need to take some control away from state / local governments at this point? In other words, do certain areas need to be more centralized? There may be new ways to collaborate in the future, but we are confident in our current approach.
