Nevada Health Response provides update on mask guidance
CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Nevada Health Response provided an update on county risk levels as posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As of updates published on August 17, 14 of Nevada’s 17 counties are currently deemed as having substantial or high transmission.
Counties flagged this week as having a high or substantial risk of COVID-19 transmission include: Carson, Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Humboldt, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Pershing, Storey, Washoe and White Pine.
Pershing and Humboldt have noted a high transmission rate for the second week in a row and, in accordance with updated State guidance, more stringent masking requirements, as laid out by the CDC, will go into effect on Friday, August 20.
Storey County, which was not listed as having high or substantial risk of transmission last week, is now listed as having a high risk of transmission. In accordance with State guidance, if the county maintains a substantial or high risk for another week, the more stringent masking requirements, as laid out by the CDC, will go into effect on Friday, August 27.
Esmeralda County is noted to have a low transmission rate for the third week in a row, Eureka has been noted as low for two weeks and Lander moved up to moderate from a low risk level last week.
Unvaccinated individuals will still be required to wear masks while indoors or while in crowded outdoor settings in these counties.
The CDC recommended that everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission. In line with Emergency Directive 045 (signed and effective May 3, 2021), the State of Nevada is automatically adopting the latest CDC guidance related to masks as a statewide requirement.
As a reminder, throughout the State, individuals who are not fully vaccinated are required to wear face coverings indoors or while in crowded outdoor settings.
