Nevada Health Response issues updated mask guidance
CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Nevada Health Response issued additional guidance related to the State’s mask requirements updated earlier this week.
The new requirement aligns with recommendations announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday, which were automatically adopted by the State of Nevada, in line with Emergency Directive 045 (signed and effective May 3, 2021). The additional guidance is attached to this email and can be found online here: UPDATED NEVADA COVID-19 GUIDANCE: Delta Variant, Vaccinations and Masks
The State’s mask mandate was updated after the CDC recommended that everyone, including fully vaccinated individuals, wear a mask in public indoor settings in counties with substantial or high transmission.
Based on CDC data as of Tuesday, July 27, 12 of Nevada’s 17 counties are currently deemed as having substantial or high transmission. That includes: Carson, Churchill, Clark, Douglas, Elko, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Lyon, Mineral, Nye, Washoe and White Pine.
Eureka, Humboldt and Lander counties are listed as moderate and Pershing and Storey counties are at low transmission as of Tuesday’s CDC updates.
Today’s guidance outlines the new mask requirements, including which counties will be affected, how often county status will be reviewed and updated, the process for counties to relax or increase masking requirements and additional details.
To allow communities and businesses in counties with substantial or high transmission time to implement the new requirements, Governor Sisolak signed and issued Emergency Directive 047 on Tuesday, which created a three-day grace period to implement the new State mask mandate, meaning that Tuesday's updates from the CDC will formally go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2021.
