Definitely has the curiosity going!
Noticed this title in a Webtoons weekly newsletter. As usual, the short preview caught my attention. Especially since it about witches (seriously don't ask on this one...).
First read was during social media promos for the media. A nice test for the simple reason: if I wanted more while being distracted, it would definitely be high up the list. Exactly what happened with Muted! The one part, I had to go over 3 times to figure out exactly what was happening. It is towards the end and perfectly placed.
Muted, drops you into the middle of the story. Great concept from the technical side because it leaves so much room for history / backstory. Also, leaves a lot of room for creativity with that history / backstory. Non-technical side: simple, it really gets your curiosity and the "I want more" factor off to a high start.
In Episode 1, there is just enough information about the characters to get your attention / interest and keep the story moving. In addition, like the beginning, a lot is left open for details and character development. Although one character appears to have a large ego, you get the feeling she is in for a serious reality check. Which the other woman does receive towards the end. I am curious if Camille will be the main character and focus or if her cousin will be almost like a negative / opposite.
Honestly, that part I mentioned towards the end: Very Serious and sudden "What the fuck just happened????" The reason I wanted to re-read 3 times. The almost instantaneous 180 of action and pace will really catch you off guard.
Overall recommendation:
Muted, so far, has no offensive language or graphics. It can be read by a teenager or adult. It does not need either. Dropping you into the middle of the story. Just enough information to get you interested in the characters and keep the story moving. The sudden 180 turn toward the end of Episode 1. The very high "I want more!" factor all contribute to the 10 stars I gave it on Webtoons. Definitely worth your time and to check out. Can not wait to read the rest so far!
