Lt. Governor appoints Jon Pierpont as Interim Chief of Staff
SALT LAKE CITY (July 29, 2020) — Lt. Governor Spencer Cox has appointed Jon Pierpont to serve as interim chief of staff. Pierpont will serve in this interim capacity while Kirsten Rappleye, chief of staff to Lt. Governor Cox, is on maternity leave. Upon Rappleye’s return, he will stay on to assist as a senior advisor.
Pierpont will leave his post as executive director of the Department of Workforce Services, which he has held since 2012, to accept this position.
“Jon is a trusted leader and a tireless public servant,” said Lt. Governor Cox. “His experience and background will be critical over the next several months as the state continues to address the different impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In recent years, Pierpont has been integrally involved in several key initiatives impacting the state of Utah, from homelessness and intergenerational poverty to workforce development and social service programs.
“Utah is facing a critical time in its history,” said Pierpont. “It’s an honor to continue working with the governor and lieutenant governor to tackle these challenges and help Utahns rebound from the pandemic and its many impacts. I’m grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve at the Department of Workforce Services, and would like to thank my team for their dedicated work over the last eight years.”
Deputy Directors Casey Cameron and Greg Paras, will oversee day-to-day operations at the Department of Workforce Services until further notice.
