LE ROUX: ‘Insider Favoritism Silences Women in Governor’s Race’ ‘No One on Stage Can Speak to Women’s Issues’
SACRAMENTO — Following last night’s KCRA gubernatorial debate, candidate Jenny Rae Le Roux, whose campaign placed in the top 3 in fundraising at the last reporting period, released the following statement regarding a lack of transparency in debate selection:
“We are less than three weeks from the biggest election in California’s history, and the top female fundraiser has yet to be invited to participate in any major, televised debate. The metrics for debate selection have only been published by one media outlet. The political powerbrokers, on both sides, have hand-picked celebrities and politicians – but not real candidates who can solve the real issues facing women in California.”
“I have respect for every person running to replace Gavin Newsom, but there are no candidates on stage who have ever played women’s sports or taken maternity leave. No candidate is the primary breadwinner and a primary caretaker. While Gavin Newsom was at the French Laundry, I was at home doing my laundry. None of the candidates on stage understands what it means to be a mom who sends my kids to school every morning worried about the quality of education they will receive. Every candidate in the conversation has experienced life as a biological man and has no concept of the real issues facing women in our state today.”
“Even the media has disregarded this lack of diversity. None are talking about women’s healthcare, or the strain Newsom’s COVID restrictions have put on women-owned businesses, single moms, home school moms, and female caretakers. The voices of California women are not being heard because women have been excluded from the conversation.”
“I am running to free California to live, work, and breathe. That includes all of us. Women aren’t asking for special treatment – we’re just asking to be heard.”
