Pace definitely varies....
Ok, much as I don't like starting with downside, that is what Lalin's Curse kind of did.
It is a very slow start with a lot of unnecessary details. I realize this is used to build suspense, especially at a start, it backfired in an almost big way here. I almost lost interest right when the actual story and action kicked in.
Overall, it is about a town in Italy that is supposedly cursed. Great concept with a lot of room for research / imagination.
Change up: What started as a review of only Episode Zero, now, is a full review (or at least to the current episode.
After the slow start in Episode 0, pace and characters change. Which is a nice surprise. Isabel Terol Martinez (creator) does an excellent job of providing background in a very real sense with the new, main, characters. Honestly, after Episode 0, I found myself reading and scrolling without even realizing it. Definitely an excellent characteristic!
The story pace does continue to vary at points. Yes, it can be a little drawn out. I am the type where "Dive right into the action." Character introduction and interaction fits well with the story with nothing really out of place. In other words, everything has a very smooth flow to it.
Artwork is excellent! Clear lines, expressions, background, main focus all contribute to the overall immersion of the story. Yes, there is an immersion factor here. Not to the point where you feel like you are standing there. But, you are slowing beginning to feel a part of the story. Wanting to become a part of the character's lives / wanting to actually meet them.
Overall, Lalin's Curse is definitely one to add towards the top of your list! Again, honestly, you may have to push past the beginning of Episode 0. At the end of each episode, I found myself definitely wanting more of the story. Ms. Martinez has only begun to introduce the Curse. Definitely read each one all the way through. Ms. Martinez does an excellent job with a surprise at the end. These surprises seriously help explain questions and give much better background / location / cultural information. It also makes the story much more enjoyable!
