After 6 years visiting / covering Philadelphia, finally introduced to nightlife. Philadelphia rock band, Velvet Rouge, reason. Had a conversation before visiting about Johnny Brenda's (highly recommended). Very impressive and cool from the outside (outdoor dining weather permitting). Inside 1st floor: welcoming atmosphere / pool table / bar / booth seating. 2nd floor: stage / bar / stage / welcoming atmosphere continues. 3rd floor best part: balcony (corner you can look down on band) / bar / seating.
Highly recommend experiencing a live show here. Great acoustics on both floors. You have a stage view depending on crowd (get there early in case of large crowd). Staff was very friendly. Actually liked a few looks for 1st visit. Helped me relax and feel welcome. Did not have a chance to sample food. On the list for next visit. Bartenders were excellent! Bay Breeze my standard. Excellent mix without going overboard on alcohol.
Overall: Johnny Brenda's is a great place to experience live music. Large enough to attract a good crowd. Small enough to feel intimate / personal. 3 levels / outdoor dining provide a fairly unique experience. I have been to a lot of music venues for indie bands. Johnny Brenda's is the most unique for live music. Thanks to the staff for a perfect intro to Philadelphia nightlife!
