IWGA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING - 27 MAY 2021
For the second time in six months, the International World Games Association (IWGA) is holding its Annual General Meeting (AGM) remotely, using online technology. The AGM, to be chaired by IWGA President José Perurena on Thursday, 27 May, will allow the delegates of the 37 member federations to focus on the state of preparations for the 11th edition of The World Games from 7 to 17 July 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama.
BOC CEO Nick Sellers Centre Stage
Almost 14 months before the opening of The World Games 2022 in the USA at the newly built Protective Stadium in Birmingham/Alabama, the focus will be on the presentation of Nick Sellers, CEO of the local Birmingham Organizing Committee (BOC). All 25 competition venues have now been fixed for the ten competition days, showcasing 34 sports and more than 200 medal events.
Also on the agenda of the AGM – alongside standing items such as finances - are applications from international federations of Sambo and Wushu to join the Association, and an analysis of the institutional consequences of the Birmingham Games having been put back by a year.
The option of holding the Annual General Meeting remotely once again was created by delegates from the 37 member federations during the AGM in November 2020. An amendment to the statutes now allows the meeting – under defined circumstances - to be held legally via virtual meeting platforms. The IWGA Office has put in place the corresponding technical requirements after evaluating the meeting in 2020.
José Perurena says: "We have done everything to ensure that our AGM this year meets the expectations and demands of our member federations. Nevertheless, I very much hope that we will be able to meet again in person next year. Even though we have prepared this AGM as best we can, virtual meetings will always be only the second-best solution."
