A lot more than humor / fun / satire...
Right off, from a technical standpoint, this is one of the BEST Kickstarter projects I have seen!!!! Technical referring to amount of information / overall layout and design. Honestly, there is one minor point... Start with the best aspects!
Introduced to Hey Cutie at Play NYC 2019, had a great conversation with Brian. I did have a little background about this tabletop game. Forgetting that, the Kickstarter really drew me in. I am straight digital with a lot of things (books, music, movies, games, etc.). Also grew up in the 1970's and 80's where we played a lot of tabletop games. Intro over, time to dive into the project. Promise to stay unbiased.
Quick Breakdown
I did watch the intro video, Brian (game creator), did an excellent job. Short enough to keep your attention. Long enough to include top details and grab your attention. The Kickstarter is LOADED with game graphics. Perfect for the visual world we live. The graphics are well balanced with text descriptions and information. 2 videos (walk-through by Brian / game being played), pretty much erase any doubt about the duality / complexity of the game. Will get into that shortly. No chances were taken here on not seriously having your complete interest and desire to play the game! Section breakdown even includes a link to download the Rulebook.
Hey Cutie, on the surface, may appear to be a lighthearted / fun game. Making parodies of dating and the scene. Throw in some fantasy characters (Lady Dracula, personal fav / Alien and more). Between the videos / text information, it is DEFINITELY deeper and more complex. The Duality comes from this part. Hey Cutie has several game mechanics placing on the level of highly advanced tabletop games. I mean this as a very high compliment. This is not a version of solitaire / MTG / several others. Serious strategy and paying close attention to what other players do is a given here. The game also brings serious attention to both sides of dating: challenges and fun. Ok, more challenge than fun in the real world. Again, combining reality with fantasy (what to wear vs. carrying a rocket launcher). Even the fantasy parts make you realize how much pressure and attention to detail go into every stage.
Rewards
Starting at $1 for updates ($600 highest), have proven how serious Brian and the team are about completing this project. $20 gets you the complete game with print files. $10, How about a stripped down, printable version of the game? They realize people may be on a very tight budget (raising hand here). Also want the largest amount of people to experience the game. Seriously, $20 is a good value for this type of tabletop game.
Overall Recommendation
Please support this Kickstarter and game! It has definitely earned one of THE top spots on several of your lists!!!! I did not forget the minor point on the technical side (have to prove this review is unbiased). They could have shortened the project page up a little. While not including unnecessary information, most attention spans are very short. Despite Brian doing an excellent job on the intro video, you will be doing some scrolling for all the information. Not that great for phones and smaller mobile devices. How could it have been shortened? No clue. In my opinion, every aspect (graphics / videos / text) are an absolute for this project.
Between the technical side / game concept / art / real life subject and more, this is seriously one of THE BEST tabletop games and crowdfunding projects I have seen!!!!! Wish I would have played a demo at Play NYC 2019. I do have one request: Any chance for a digital version in the future? As a hardcore fan of single player games, would love to go against the computer on this one....
