Short Version: Originally planned 2 - 3 days. Turned into 5. Sunday: Original plan 2 -3 hours. Turned into all day (10). Review / article not planned. Sunday night changed it. Can't remember last time I did that. Even though fair is not big (between 2 -3 blocks long), it packs a lot into that space. Long farmers market / Agri-plex (indoor events) / great food / artists / state fair (agriculture).
Growing up with fair, never really paid attention to the agriculture part. Not really my style. This year walked down section behind Agri-plex (live farm animals). Checked out Iron Chef Competition for a few minutes. Learned about farms / agriculture. One part of Allentown Fair I want to stress: education! I am a city person, little bit of culture shock, loved it.
Most important part of Allentown Fair? Security! Metal detectors were tried for first time this year. Everyone I talked to either didn't have a problem or liked / loved it. Unlike Musikfest, thought never crossed my mind how easy someone could pull a knife / gun causing a worst-case scenario.
2022, fair appeared to be a little scaled back. Schedule appeared light. No main band on Saturday night. Several reasons could have contributed. Lack of funds to pay for everything. A re-inventing phase to attract younger generation. Fair has become repetitious / stagnant. Pandemic, another major possibility. Unlike Musikfest, I never hear Allentown Fair ("New attendance record! We seriously need more money!") begging for money.
$8 general admission (bought advance tickets @ $4), may appear a little high. Hey, cost everything has risen. Families had no problem coming out / spending some cash on vendors / having a great time. Every night people were walking around even after fair officially closed. Labor Day left around 4:15, rain did not stop people from attending. Overall, 2022 Allentown Fair was an excellent experience and very highly recommend! Scroll down for long version / photos.
