Governor Whitmer Declares March 28 - April 3 as Building Michigan Together Week

Governor highlights Building Michigan Together Plan which includes largest infrastructure investments in Michigan history, builds on work to fix the roads

LANSING, Mich. – Governor Gretchen Whitmer kicked of Building Michigan Together Week, celebrating the investments Michigan has made in infrastructure over the last three years that have supported over 110,000 jobs, boosted the economy, kept drivers safe on the road, and protected drinking water for communities. The bipartisan infrastructure deal agreed to last week, the Building Michigan Together Plan, will build on this progress with some of the largest investments in Michigan history to fix roads, upgrade pipes, sewers, and dams, and improve parks.

“Since I took office, we have made historic investments to rebuild our infrastructure from roads and bridges to pipes and sewer systems, while supporting over 110,000 jobs,” said Governor Whitmer. “Soon, we are poised to do so much more with the Building Michigan Together Plan, which includes some of the largest infrastructure investments in Michigan history. If you thought you saw a lot of orange cones and barrels on the road before, get ready for more as we continue fixing the damn roads. This plan will make a real difference in our communities, support tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, and set up Michigan’s economy for decades of success. It is a testament to what is possible when we put Michiganders first. I am so proud to spend the week celebrating the bipartisan infrastructure investments that the Michigan Legislature and my administration have collaborated on, and I know so much is possible when we work together to get things done.”

Building Michigan Together Plan
The Building Michigan Together Plan will kick off unprecedented work to fix roads and bridges, protect drinking water, replace lead service lines, expand access to fast, reliable high-speed internet, improve state and local parks, and build affordable housing. The plan includes some of the largest infrastructure investments in Michigan history. Governor Whitmer is expected to sign the plan into law this week.

Roads & Bridges
Since Governor Whitmer took office, Michigan has fixed over 13,000 lane miles of road and over 900 bridges, supporting 82,000 jobs. The state is fixing its infrastructure with the right mix and material, so it stays fixed. The governor also reinstated prevailing wage for all state construction contracts, ensuring taxpayers get the best value for their money with highly-skilled workers building Michigan’s infrastructure.

Water
Since Governor Whitmer took office, Michigan has invested over $2 billion to upgrade drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater facilities across the state, supporting 30,000 jobs. The governor worked closely with Attorney General Dana Nessel to achieve the largest legal settlement in Michigan history for children and families in Flint, totaling $600 million
