Governor Sisolak, Nevada officials thank first responders and conservation crews working to protect Nevada from the Caldor Fire
CARSON CITY, NV – Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak was joined by State officials and local leaders to visit wildland fire crews and associated personnel working to protect Nevada’s communities, wildlife, and ecosystems from the Caldor Fire and thank first responders with four different stops in the Tahoe basin, including Governor Sisolak and Nevada State Senator Chris Brooks serving lunch to firefighters.
“I was honored to see this work in action and I am so grateful to the men and women who have stepped up to serve our State during this time,” Gov. Sisolak said. "By working together and planning ahead with smart collaboration and legislation, we can help ensure we are more prepared than ever before in the face of wildfires and other emergencies.”
The Governor was joined by Senator Brooks – who sponsored and helped push forward two pieces of legislation from the 2019 session Senate Bill 329 and Senate Bill 508 that were signed by Governor Sisolak – to ensure State agencies and local businesses enacted measures to mitigate the risk from natural disasters.
The additional resources provided through SB508 helped expand the scope of forest management and fuels treatments in the State, including in the Tahoe basin. Broader and more focused forest management efforts have proven to reduce fire intensity and damage by establishing defensible space near communities and helping firefighters safely protect communities and build containment lines during a wildfire.
