Governor Sisolak announces staffing changes
CARSON CITY, NV – Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak announced key staffing updates and changes related to the Governor’s Office. After more than two years of dedicated service, Chief of Staff Michelle White and Senior Advisor Scott Gilles will be transitioning out of the Governor’s Office.
Gilles’ last day will be Friday, July 16. White will stay on as Chief of Staff throughout the summer to allow for time to identify a successor and ensure a successful transition.
“I am forever appreciative of the steadfast service and guidance Michelle and Scott have provided me in my time as the Governor of the great State of Nevada. They have been with me from the start, and they have held the public’s interest at the forefront of what they do every day. I will miss them tremendously,” Gov. Sisolak said. “No one could have predicted all that we would have faced together since I took office, and their leadership and expertise during historically challenging times have undoubtedly made Nevada a better State. I look forward to watching their next steps as they continue their incredible careers.”
Prior to joining the Governor’s Office, White served in multiple leadership roles in electoral and legislative politics for a over a decade in Nevada. In November 2018, she became the head of the Governor’s transition team after his election. As Chief of Staff, she has helped lead the office through an inauguration, two regular legislative sessions, two special legislative sessions, and a historic pandemic.
“Serving as the Governor’s Chief of Staff has been the honor of my lifetime,” White said. “For close to three years I've had the privilege of witnessing the Governor’s unparalleled commitment to leading Nevada through some of the most trying and unprecedented times in our State’s history – civil protests against systemic racism, the impacts of a climate crisis, and a global pandemic and subsequent economic crisis that forced tough decisions aimed at protecting the lives and livelihood of all Nevadans. I will forever be humbled that the Governor trusted me to serve his office and our great State throughout this time. I look forward to supporting his incredible team of public servants during my transition as they kickstart the State’s successful path to recovery.”
Gilles joined the administration as Senior Advisor to the Governor in January 2019. He previously worked for the City of Reno, where he managed government affairs and legislative relations beginning in February 2015, and prior to that he served as the Deputy Secretary of State for Elections. Scott has been an indispensable member of the Governor’s senior team – advising the Governor on overall strategy including communications, policy matters, legislative efforts, and external and intergovernmental affairs.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to work alongside Governor Sisolak, Michelle and all the dedicated State employees who work incredibly hard to make the Silver State a better place for the more than 3 million people who call Nevada home,” Gilles said. “I am incredibly grateful to the Governor for his dedication to the State and his confidence in me to be his Senior Advisor through the unprecedented challenges the State has faced during my time in his office. I am humbled to have been given the opportunity to serve the Governor and Nevadans in this role, and I look forward to our State’s continued progress under his leadership.”
