Governor Sisolak Announces the Resignation of the Executive Director of the Patient Protection Commission
LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Today, Governor Steve Sisolak announced the resignation of the Executive Director of the Patient Protection Commission (PPC) Sara Cholhagian. Her departure from her current role will be effective November 1. Governor Sisolak will select an appointee to fill the seat in the near future.
“I will forever be grateful to Sara for her hard work and commitment to the people of Nevada. She has led the groundbreaking Patient Protection Commission since its inception and her relentless support and unmatched leadership has been critical in facilitating access to affordable quality healthcare to all Nevadans,” Governor Sisolak said. “The Patient Protection Commission was a top priority for me when I entered office, and I am truly proud of the work the commission has accomplished under her leadership. I wish Sara the best in all of her future endeavors.”
The Patient Protection Commission has been able to achieve many accomplishments including leading Nevada to be one of the few states to be a part of the selective Peterson-Milbank program for Sustainable Health Care costs. The State’s participation in this program enabled Nevada to become a leader in the national fight to make health care more affordable for residents, employers, and the State.
Additionally, during the 2021 legislative session the Patient Protection Commission was able to successfully advocate for Senate Bill 5 and Senate Bill 40 which build upon the commission’s work in providing more transparency, information, and access to health care for all Nevadans.
The Patient Protection Commission was created by Senate Bill 544 and signed into law by Governor Sisolak during the 2019 legislative session. The commission is comprised of 11 members and an executive director representing experience from across the health care spectrum. They are charged with taking a comprehensive look at the state of health care in Nevada and identify areas for improvement to ensure every Nevadan has access to affordable and quality health care.
