Governor Sisolak orders flags to half-staff in honor of individuals who lost their lives on September 11, 2001
CARSON CITY – Today, by executive order, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Nevada to be flown at half-staff at the State Capitol and state public buildings and grounds in honor of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
“It is with solemn honor we lower the flags out of respect for all of those that lost their lives twenty years ago on September 11, 2001. It is also a day to remember all of those courageous first responders that sacrificed and risked so much to ensure many more lives were saved,” said Governor Sisolak. “I know many Nevadans will join me in reflecting on that day – we can all so vividly remember what we were doing at the time. I was helping my girls get ready for school when we saw the news on the television. As a nation, we grieved together, found strength in one another and found ways to move forward together.”
On December 18, 2001, the United States Congress designated September 11th as “Patriot Day.” Nevada lowers its flags each year on September 11th to honor and recognize those who were injured or killed on this tragic day in America’s history. As a State, this day of remembrance draws attention to the courage and compassion of first responders, members of the military, and all of those that rose to the occasion to save lives and aid in the recovery both during and after the attacks.
Planning note: Gov. Sisolak plans to attend the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue remembrance event on Saturday morning at 6:45 a.m.
