Governor Sisolak issues statement on Clark County mask mandate

Picture
LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak issued the following statement in support of Clark County mandating masks for employees working indoors in public spaces in Clark County. This follows a recommendation issued last week by the Southern Nevada Health District that all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, wear masks in crowded indoor public places including casinos, grocery stores, malls and at large events.

“I support the Clark County Commission for using their local authority to issue this mitigation measure amid significant community transmission in Southern Nevada and as we continue our joint effort to increase access and confidence in the COVID-19 vaccines,” said Gov. Steve Sisolak. “State agencies and leaders are working every day with my Office in joint unity with local leaders and health districts to combat recent increases. The State remains completely committed to provide every resource and support available to all of our counties as we see a rise in cases among the unvaccinated, driven by the Delta variant. If you are not vaccinated, or if you know someone who is not vaccinated, now is the time to get your shot and ensure that Nevada continues on our path to recovery.”

COVID-19 vaccine information and clinics can be found at NVCOVIDFighter.org. Vaccines are free, safe, effective and available to all.

In line with Clark’s new mask requirement, the Governor is directing all State employees in Clark County to wear face coverings.

Background:
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor has given explicit authority to local county governments to enact stronger mitigation measures than the Statewide baseline. Through Emergency Directive 045, the State has adopted CDC guidance on mask wearing as the Statewide baseline. Counties are still authorized to adopt stricter measures if they choose to do so based on the spread of COVID-19 in their county.
