Governor Steve Sisolak joins Governors calling on Congress to lower the cost of health insurance
CARSON CITY, NV – Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak and 13 other Governors called on Congress, urging them to expand the American Rescue Plan (ARP) benefits which have helped lower the cost of health insurance for Nevadans. 9 in 10 Nevadans received some sort of subsidy to reduce monthly health insurance premiums, and almost half are eligible to obtain a plan for $100 or less.
“If these ARP subsidies are not extended, tens of thousands of Nevadans who have health insurance plans through Nevada Health Link will be hit with a surge in monthly premiums,” said Governor Sisolak.
The end of the next Plan Year begins on November 1. The letter states if ARP subsidies aren’t extended, Nevadans covered under Nevada Health Link plans will experience higher monthly premiums, some even doubling in cost. The State of Nevada is working across the board to lower costs for Nevadans including an investment in a public health option and joining the Northwest Drug Consortium to decrease prescription drug costs. However, these subsidies remain an essential tool to ensure health care coverage.
“It is critical to Nevadans that the ARP benefits are extended through the next Plan Year,” said Ryan High, Executive Director of the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange. “During the last Open Enrollment, Nevada Health Link saw the largest enrollment cohort in history since becoming a state-based exchange, thanks in large part to increased subsidies to make plans more affordable. With the cost of gas, groceries and other bills going up, now is not the time for Congress to make health insurance more expensive for Nevada families.”
