Governor Sisolak, Nevada officials take whole-of-government approach to Caldor Fire
CARSON CITY, NV - Today, Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak, along with federal, state and local officials provided an update to Nevadans on the Caldor Fire.
Throughout the day, the Governor participated in internal briefings with stakeholders across Nevada led by the Division of Emergency Management, provided an update to the media, surveyed part of the damage with the Nevada National Guard and visited an evacuation shelter being run in cooperation with the American Red Cross.
“As the Caldor Fire progresses and the situation evolves, every state agency in Nevada is working closely with federal and local partners to support impacted communities and implement a swift and strategic response,” Gov. Sisolak said. “The State of Nevada is deploying every tool and using every resource available. I remain grateful to our firefighters, emergency responders, law enforcement, local leaders and volunteers who are leading this massive effort and dedicating their time, resources, energy and support to help those in need during these difficult times.”
Planning and coordination between State agencies, local officials and Cal Fire regarding the Caldor Fire began ten days ago – and is continuing as officials prepare for the fire to potentially cross from California into Nevada. Members of the State’s federal delegation, including Senators Catherine Cortez Masto, Jacky Rosen and Congressman Mark Amodei, were included in today’s internal briefing, and expressed their commitment to advocate for additional federal support, if necessary.
Since the Caldor Fire originated in California, Cal Fire is the lead agency for the incident, but is working side-by-side with Nevada officials in close coordination as the incident continues.
“I want to thank Governor Sisolak, our fellow state agencies and local and federal partners for their strong coordination as we navigate and respond to the Caldor Fire,” said Jon Bakkedahl, the Preparedness/Response Emergency Management Program Manager for the Nevada Division of Emergency Management. “This fire is serious, and Nevadans must remain vigilant and look out for updates from local leaders, emergency response, and law enforcement. The situation is quickly evolving and we must remain ready to move swiftly and look out for one another in the face of any danger.”
