What’s On on Friday
An action-packed day lies ahead! Nine different sports start on Friday – and in five of these there are competitions that go all the way through to the award of the treasured gold, silver and bronze medals. These are the Latin Couple discipline in DanceSport, six Kata and Kumite classes in Karate, three Powerlifting classes, six classes in Speed Skating and 8 classes in Finswimming.
Four of the sports on Day 1 take place at the Jefferson Complex in Birmingham. Bowling, the first day of four, has men’s and women’s Tenpin Singles, two groups competing to find the top 32. DanceSport has two disciplines on offer: Latin Couple Quarter-Final, Semi-Final and Final, and Rock ‘n’ Roll Quarter and Semi-Finals. In Floorball there will be 4 Preliminary games; teams in groups of 4 all play each other in the group over three days. And in Powerlifting there are medal competitions in Equipped Lightweight Men and Women, plus Equipped Middleweight Women.
Archery begins eight days of competition at Avondale Park with 4 rounds in Target Compound Men and Women, qualification through to Quarter Finals in both, and Target Compound Team, Quarter and Semi-Finals. Karate is at the Bill Battle Coliseum, with events in Kata (Men and Women) and Kumite (Women 50 kg, 55 kg and 61 kg, Men 67 kg), all through to the medal awards.
There are in all 9 days of Lacrosse, starting on Day 1 with 4 Preliminary matches in Outdoor Sixes men at the University of Alabama Soccer Stadium. Roller Sports has two disciplines starting on day 1: Inline Hockey Team Men at the Harris Arena (Preliminary matches) and Speed Skating at the Powell Steam Plant, 6 classes all going the whole way to the medal awards.
Finally, the first of two days for the very fast and exciting sport Finswimming takes place at the Birmingham Crossplex – Natatorium. 8 classes will be competed for, right through to the medals
