Sharing the same fascination...
Every time I walk through a cemetery / graveyard, it is with great reverence. Always trying to find the older grave makers. Wondering what their life was like. What those people experienced before I was even born. I also have a very high respect for the dead, don't ask.... Right off, the title caught my attention. This time, I really wanted to feature something completely different. Dearly Departed pretty much is that.
Doing the normal, read the project before watching the video.
Ms. Ferri is dead on (forgive the pun) here. Cemeteries are very beautiful places. There is a very quiet peace at each one. Even if it is right on a major highway with the noise from modern society. They are a true record of life. Even looking at the grave markers and realizing how much time and history are there. A lot of cemeteries have graves dating back 75 years or longer. On a more sombering / possibly depressing note (maybe a positive one): They also remind us short and valuable every moment of life truly is.

Ms. Ferri gives us a quick glimpse on her background and why she started this series. Visiting Hong Kong and a historical cemetery there. She also points out something very few people may know. Green-Wood cemetery (New York) is the first cemetery park in the country. Definitely does her research on the topic.
Rewards: Starting at the $20 level, rewards match the amount / tier. $20 / copy of the book. $40 / signed and framed photo print. What really surprised me? The $35 dollar level! Ticket to the screening in NY. This is a great value if you can make it.
Overall recommendation: Ms. Ferri tries to make as many rewards available to everyone. Regardless of where you live in the world. She is even open to suggestions depending on your location. This is a very different documentary film. Not about historical / current / well known people or places. It is about places we overlook and sometimes fear for whatever the reason. Ms. Ferri does an excellent job showing the beauty, magic, mystery in cemeteries.
