- Today, Governor Roy Cooper and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy K. Cohen, M.D. announced that additional frontline essential workers in Group 3 will be eligible for vaccinations beginning tomorrow, March 3. Governor Cooper also outlined an expected timeline for beginning Group 4 vaccinations. Read more.
- North Carolina has another tested, safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine to protect against virus-related hospitalization and death. The federal government authorized the distribution of Johnson & Johnson’s (Janssen) one-shot vaccine and more than 80,000 doses are expected to arrive in the state this week, beginning on Wednesday. COVID-19 Testing:
- Anyone who has symptoms of COVID-19 should get tested. If you are sick, use the Check My Symptoms tool to help you determine if you need a COVID-19 test. People who do not have symptoms but may have been exposed to COVID-19 should also get tested, especially people from historically marginalized communities, including Latinx/Hispanic, Black/African American and American Indian Populations, who have been disproportionately affected by the virus.
- North Carolina has upcoming testing events scheduled in Alamance, Avery, Beaufort, Bladen, Buncombe, Cabarrus, Catawba, Chatham, Chowan, Craven, Cumberland, Dare, Davidson, Davie, Duplin, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Gaston, Gates, Graham, Granville, Greene, Guilford, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Iredell, Johnston, Lenoir, Lincoln, Madison, Martin, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Nash, New Hanover, Onslow, Orange, Pitt, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Scotland, Stanly, Surry, Vance, Wake, Watauga, Wilson, Yadkin and Yancey counties. For an up-to-date list of events, visit the Community Testing Events webpage. Many events offer testing at no cost. For more details about a specific event, call ahead before you go for a test.
- North Carolina COVID-19 testing is also provided at some local health departments, doctor and clinician offices, hospitals and clinics, many pharmacy sites and retail outlets, and other community locations. Some people who work in long-term care facilities and other high-risk settings may be tested through their work. You can find testing sites by using the Find My Testing Place tool online.
ICYMI:
- Kaiser Family Foundation ranks North Carolina as first in the nation for vaccinating the largest share of its 65 and older population at 49%. This rate does not include those in long-term care facilities. Read more.
- Governor Cooper announced the establishment of a COVID-19 vaccination center in North Carolina, in partnership with the federal government. The FEMA-supported COVID-19 Community Vaccination Center will open at Four Seasons Town Centre in Greensboro on March 10 and will remain open for eight weeks. Read more.
- As North Carolina’s numbers continue to show improvement and vaccine distribution increases, Governor Cooper announced that the state will carefully ease some of its COVID-19 restrictions. Executive Order 195 took effect last Friday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. and will expire March 26 at 5 p.m. More information is available in the frequently asked questions and press release.
