COVID-19 Press Bulletin for 4-7-2021

Picture
Carson City, NV — Today, Caleb Cage, Nevada COVID-19 Response Director and Karissa Loper, Deputy Bureau Chief for the Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness provided updates on Nevada’s ongoing COVID-19 response and vaccination efforts in Nevada during a call with members of the media.
This bulletin provides facts, figures, and informational items from the call. As a reminder, data is provided in a dashboard on the home page of the Nevada Health Response website.
SUMMARY:
  • As of today, Nevada has logged 305,929 cases, with the 14-day rolling average of daily cases being 203.

  • Nevada has now completed a total of 2,992,025 molecular tests since the beginning of COVID-19.

  • The test positivity rate over the last 14 days is 4.5%.

  • Today, the Nevada Hospital Association is reporting there are currently 315 COVID-19 hospitalizations (256 confirmed; 59 suspected).

  • The NHA is reporting that the State is experiencing a slight increase in COVID-19 hospitalizations, but not at a rate that is placing any significant burden on the health care system.

  • This analysis is also in line with what the DHHS Office of Analytics is reporting. New daily cases are trending upward, but the increasing trend for cases is very slight.

  • This is consistent with what has been seen previously when restrictions are loosened. Nevada is closer to the end than the beginning, but it is very important to continue following mitigation measures to help slow the spread.

  • If you don’t feel well, please stay home to take care of yourself and limit your exposure to others. If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, you should seek testing.

  • When you leave your home, continue to wear your mask and practice social distancing.

  • Please schedule your COVID-19 vaccine appointment when you can.

  • There is no scheduled task force meeting this Thursday. The state continues to work with counties on local transition plans and meetings to begin reviewing these plans are scheduled next week.

  • As of April 6, 1,390,119 COVID-19 vaccine doses (By Resident County) were administered and reported to Nevada WebIZ.

  • 35.5% of the population 16 and older has initiated vaccination and 20.7% of the population 16 and older has completed vaccination.

  • Yesterday, the first Mobile Vaccination Unit, or MVU, events took place and the teams reported both events went very well.

  • One event was held at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony where they vaccinated about 300 people and the other was at the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe where they were able to administer 115 doses of the Janssen vaccine.

  • The MVUs are on route to their next locations and will not be vaccinating today.

  • On the Northern route, the MVU will be at the Washoe Tribe in Carson City tomorrow, and on the Southern route they will be in Pahrump from April 8 through April 10.

  • The Nevada National Guard, Division of Emergency Management, State Immunization Program, Community Health Nurses, volunteers from the military veterans group Team Rubicon, Immunize Nevada and all of the local location partners have come together to increase access to this life saving resource.

  • It would not be possible without the groups supporting these efforts to reach many of our rural and tribal communities.

  • As always, Nevadans are encouraged to check out NVCOVIDFighter.org or call 1-800-401-0946 for the latest information on appointment availability in their county. Information on the MVUs schedule and locations is also available on Immunize Nevada’s  County-Specific COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution page.
