Carson City, NV — Today, Caleb Cage, Nevada COVID-19 Response Director and Candice McDaniel, Health Bureau Chief for the Bureau of Child, Family, and Community Wellness provided updates on Nevada’s ongoing COVID-19 response, vaccination efforts in Nevada during a call with members of the media.

- As of today, Nevada has logged 304,454 cases, with the 14-day rolling average of daily cases being 186.
- Nevada has now completed a total of 2,965,744 molecular tests since the beginning of COVID-19.
- The test positivity rate over the last 14 days is 4.2%.
- Today, the NHA is reporting there are currently 322 COVID-19 hospitalizations (255 confirmed; 67 suspected).
- Nevada is no longer seeing a decline in cases reported each day, but the trend is currently very stable overall, and the trend is not very concerning to the State team at this time.
- Nevadans must continue to follow public health measures – like staying home when sick, seeking a COVID-19 test if you are experiencing symptoms or may have been exposed to a positive COVID-19 case, wearing your mask and getting your COVID-19 vaccine when it is available.
- As of April 1, 1,294,570 COVID-19 vaccine doses (By Resident County) were administered and reported to Nevada WebIZ.
- 32.4% of the population 16 and older has initiated vaccination and 19.6% of the population 16 and older has completed vaccination.
- Starting Monday, April 5, all Nevadans 16 and older will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
- Nevadans are urged to check for available appointments in their area.
- Appointments are being added to locations statewide, but may fill up quickly. Please continue to check frequently for changes.
- Currently there is not enough vaccine to administer to every resident but please be patient and check back as more appointments will be added.
- Residents are encouraged to take the vaccine that is available at the time of their appointment, all three vaccines have been found to be highly effective at preventing serious illness and death.
- Now that there are more opportunities to get vaccinated, it is important to know the possible side effects of the vaccine.
- These side effects are common and should be expected, as it is a sign that your body is building protection against the virus. Common side effects include:
- Pain
- Redness
- Swelling
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Chills
- Fever
- Muscle Pain
- Nausea
- To help reduce side effects, it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids and take over the counter pain medication as directed.
- It takes about two weeks after getting fully vaccinated for the body to build protection against the virus that causes COVID-19.
